Cubs
We have 21 Cub Scouts at the moment in our Pack. They are in four sixes – Yellow, Red, Blue and Green. We meet on a wednesday evening at our HQ for fun, games and activities. As often as we can we meet outside, either at Pinsent (the District Campsite) or at other places in order to explore, do adventurous activities or other typical scouting stuff.
We take part in lots of district events such as orienteering, Scrapheap Challenge, chess & football tournaments, and District Badge Day . We go camping at least twice a year, usually with the Scouts, and with other Cubs from the District.
In our meetings we follow the Balanced Programme – a mix of different themes for our activities.
(from Scouts.org.uk):
Beliefs and Attitudes
This zone provides opportunities to explore and develop Scouting values, personal attitudes and a range of beliefs.
Community
This zone helps Cub Scouts explore the community in which they live, discovering local people, places and facilities. It also gives them the opportunity to offer help and service.
Fitness
This zone focuses on activities to improve fitness, promote personal health and increase awareness of personal safety. It should provide young people with the opportunities to participate in a variety of games and to improve their skills in a range of physical pursuits.
Creative
This zone provides opportunities for young people to display their creativity through art, music, drama, design, worship and leadership.
Global
This zone helps Cub Scouts to discover the similarities and differences in lifestyle, cultures and environments, both locally and from around the world. It helps them make a difference.
Outdoor and Adventure
In this, the largest zone, are all the activities connected with camping and the great outdoors. This zone is full of opportunities to learn not just the traditional Scouting skills associated with hiking and camping, but also those needed for other adventurous activities.
Recently we have:
- hiked for the Pinsent 75 incident hike
- camped in Ennerdale, Cumbria
- participated in the shelterbox challenge
- played numerous games!
- planned our part of the Group’s Carol Service
- collected coins on the High Street in aid of the British Legion
- attended the King’s Royal Rifles Remembrance Day Ceremony
- made corn dollies for Harvest
- collected supplies for the Nightshelter
and that’s just this term!
Leaders
Our Leaders are all known by their jungle names:
Akela – in charge of everything! Akela is the wise Leader of the Cub pack.
Baloo – Baloo teaches the new cubs (‘tenderpads’) the ways of the pack.
Hathi – keeps most our paperwork up to date, and inspects the Cubs to make sure they are smart and tidy.
Rikki-Tiki-Tavi (Rikki) – runs the new website and helps the other leaders with whatever is going on.
Chill – has lots of fun ideas for games and songs.
Zippi – Our Young Leader (not a jungle name, but he’s been known as Zippi all through his Scouting Career!)
