Shelterbox Challenge Badge

In 2010 – 2011 the Cubs participated  in the Shelterbox Challenge this year, which comprised of 10 challenges spread over 10 months to understand the global work of Shelterbox.

In March we did the ‘Different Countries, Different Boxes’ activity, and watched a video about what sort of situations the boxes are used for. Over the April holidays the Cubs were asked to learn something about a faith not practiced in our section, and to find out if shelterbox has sent boxes to any country that practices that faith. In May we built shelters in the woods. We had an alternative olympics night, where we played silly sports.

At our Shelterbox 10th Birthday Party we first built a tent to have the party in, played some games and learnt about the places that shelterbox has helped, and what they do.

We made  a Harvest Collection for the Nightshelter – to help those in our own community who lack shelter and the basics of life.

Update 4th Nov 2010
We have made water filters, and discussed how important water is to communities. Hathi is going to show up pictures and talk about his summer trip to a community where they have limited water availability.

what’s left to do?

Cakes – we are going to ask the Cubs to make shelterbox themed cakes for the end of term carol service, and collect donations to add to our fundraising.

Update

We completed the CubTrail Challenge – a sponsored photo scavenger hunt around Winchester.  On 20th Febuary, 19 Cubs, 4 brave parents and the leaders took part in a photo scavenger hunt around Winchester, taking photos of as many notable landmarks and the local businesses who sponsored us as possible. We are still collecting in the sponsorship money at the moment, but so far we have done really well. If you are logged in, you can view the photos we took on the day.
